Every year to town of Tobermory hosts a festival to celebrate the Chi-Cheemaun! Come on out for a great weekend of fun, games, BBQ’s and more. For full event details see below:

Friday, June 21

All day – Pins and Skins at Cornerstone Golf Course (This is an Optional Competition—Not a tournament) for info call Diane at 519-596-2332

5pm – Food Booth at ball diamond – All weekend (Tobermory Legion Br. #290 & Tobermory Primary Place

6pm – Beer Garden at Ball diamond – All weekend

6pm – JP Johnstone Slo-pitch Tournament at ball diamond

7:30pm – Youth Entertainment Tobermory Community Centre

7:30pm – Champagne Dinner Cruise Great Blue Heron Dock, view fireworks from centre of harbour, tickets $50 in advance, available at Chamber Welcome Centre, or call Jeff or Sheila at 519-596-8337

10:15pm – FIREWORKS at the habour, Co-sponsored by Owen Sound

Saturday, June 22

8am – J.P. Johnstone Slo-pitch Tournament continues

9-11am – Children’s Events School Bell Park, – Tobermory Meeting Place Youth Group

10am – Legion #290 Auxiliary Pie Sale downtown beside Verna’s

10am-1pm – Book Sale Tobermory Library

10am – Dog Parade at the Harbour

11am – Beer Garden at ball diamond

1-5pm – Antique & Classic Car Show & Restored Antique Boats at the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry Dock

Sunday, June 23

Annual Tobermory Cardboard Boat Race

Rules / Regulations

Boat Building Materials:

Approved: cardboard, duct tape, latex paint, glue, string/rope

Prohibited: plastic, staples, 2 part glue, metal, rubber, styrofoam/foam core

Rules/Regulations

  1. Oars and paddles are permitted SOLELY for the purpose of propelling the boat.
  2. ALL participants must wear a proper PDF vest/jacket
  3. Alcohol is PROHIBITED in boats during the race.
  4. Each boat must have a name
  5. No restrictions are placed on decorative materials, as long as they do not aid in the flotation or propulsion of the boat and do not create a safety hazard and are not environmentally harmful
  6. All boating participants 12 and under must have an adult present.
  7. All boats will be inspected before the race by the judges.  Any boat not following these guidelines will be disqualified.
  8. Safety comes first, with no exception to this rule.

Race Day

  1. All boats must arrive at Little Tub Harbour by 1 pm on the day of the race.
  2. Boats must be registered and inspected prior to the race.
  3. The race format will be determined by the number of entries.
  4. Unload your boat in the display area.  After unloading please move your vehicle to a parking lot.
  5. All crew members must register on race day.  Boats will NOT be allowed to race without a signed agreement for each race participant.
  6. Once a boat has been announced, the captain/crew will have 2 minutes to bring their boat to the starting area.
  7. Boats will be lowered in to the water by the crew and will wait at the starting line until the signal to start is given.
  8. A completed run consists of one lap (down and back) to the dock.
  9. At the end of the races, each crew/captain will be responsible for the removal of the boat from the water/harbour and any debris that may have broken off in the water.
  10. Judges make the final decision on all awards and disqualifications.
